Is it more expensive to use a custom builder over a project home builder?
Between a project home builder and custom home builder, you're investing in two different products.
Project builder products are alike to cookie-cutter products; they specialise in building volumes of the same product whereas custom home builds are made to suit the individual client.
With the cookie-cutter builders, you're basically buying the same home as 500 other people in the state; you're not actually getting anything different.
Due to such high volumes of builds, the products become generic and overly common whereas when you go to a custom builder, everything's a one-off. We don't have a set design so everyone's building and manufacturing aren't of the same piece; everything is personally customised so everything is original.
Thus, like with everything that's original, you're going to spend more money.
Although if you were to go to a volume builder and customise their home to your tastes, then you're bound to spend over the amount you would've spent with a custom builder.
And with volume built homes, there's only so much you can alter - you can't change one of their designs to specifically match your ideal home.
So yes, it does cost more to build with a custom builder however the product is a part of a lower volume and is higher in quality.
It's also a much more personal experience because you're one of 20 rather than one of 1,000, and in most cases, you're dealing with the owner of the business.
